此片由史提芬史匹堡、佐治鲁卡斯联合监制。透过简单情节，精美生动画面，带出五条形像各动人的小恐龙的历险故事。背景是史前时代，五条小恐龙与家人失散，结伴前往恐龙乐土大山谷，途中遇上重重险阻，在他们互助精神下逐一解决，最后与家人重聚。故事除教导小朋友互助精神外，实际上亦向成年人导出，不同种族应融洽相处，适合一家大小观看。
The Land Before Time是1988年出的，讲的是迷惑龙Littlefoot出生后不久妈妈就被暴龙杀害，后来又遇到饥荒，所以，迷惑龙Littlefoot就踏上了去寻找the great valley的旅程，在the great valley，没有屠和血。在路上，迷惑龙Littlefoot又遇到了4位伙伴，这一路可谓危机四伏啊，因为1988年的这个The Land Before Time一炮走红，所以，后来，又陆陆续续出了12个续集，还是围绕迷惑龙Littlefoot这一行与暴龙的斗智斗勇展开。
